vertical dish (series) MIT 2009 and Mumbai 2010
Part of Anish Kapoor's Non Objectseries, the vertical dish is similar to a rectangular dish, but trimmed perfectly flat on one edge and stood upright. The first vertical dish is permanently installed in the Frank Gehry-designed Stata Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On the back side of the sculpture is a large machined 'button' that slides into a slotted anchor plate recessed in the wall, locking the heavy plate into position. This mechanism is completely hidden from view, so that the plate appears to be supported merely by leaning against the wall. Two small steel pegs extend from the flat bottom edge into the concrete floor. The second vertical dish was shown in Mumbai, in a Kapoor retrospective split between two cities in India.
